The two most susceptible populations to asthma are seniors and children.  Ground level ozone and the particulates that damage lung capacity are found in greater concentrations at the elevation of 3,000 feet and above.  Residential development is increasing at higher elevations, mainly for the mountain top views, and this places residents at risk to lower respiratory illness.

 

The Mayberry Group conducted a rally in downtown Asheville, NC as a part of the national Step It Up movement.  NC Congressman Heath Shuler co-sponsored a bill to reduce carbon emissions following this event.
