Mountain Home Guidance

Communities of North Carolina are working to develop plans for building livable and senior friendly communities. This is partly in response to the changing demographic of our state - an increase in seniors. The projected demographic shift in the western counties has already begun. For some, the shift is anticipated to grow to 40 to 45 percent people aged 65 and older by the year 2030. Our Staff are engaged in assisting western North Carolina communities in defining the elements of a livable senior friendly community.

Julia is a leader within the field of gerontology. Phillip has served on the Buncombe County Council on Aging Task Force as the co-Chair of the Living Environment Committee; Jackson County Planning Board; and works closely with development industry.

Julia and Phillip, along with Ali Climo, PhD. and Michele Skeele of the Council on Aging for Henderson County, conducted both a symposium and roundtable discussion at the 2007 NC Division of Aging Conference. Both will be centered on defining the physical environment indicators for the state's livable and senior friendly community initiative.

The Mayberry Group, LLC has also conducted public events to help heighten awareness on issues facing human health - such as poor air quality.
